Competition Rules

Country Swing Jack & Jill Rules

  • Dancers must register under a specific role; competing as both lead and follow at the same level is not permitted.

  • Round Duration:

    • Preliminary Round: Intro + 90 seconds until the wall finished (2 songs)

    • Semi-Finals: 90 seconds (2 songs)

    • Finals: Full-length songs (2 songs)

  • Proper spacing and distance must be maintained throughout the performance.

  • Lifts are not permitted – One foot must remain on the ground at all times. Lifts could result in DQ

  • No Props Allowed.

Country Swing Judging Criteria

  • Timing – The dance should align with the rhythm of the music, either SSS or QQS, and any timing adjustments should enhance the song’s rhythm.

  • Technique – The performance must exhibit a rotational basic, with slotted patterns lasting no more than. Dancers should demonstrate proper posture, footwork, articulation, arm coordination, and expressive movements.

  • Content – The incorporation of styling and variations, including facial expressions.

  • Teamwork – Effective communication between partners demonstrated through physical connection, spatial awareness, and eye contact.

  • Showmanship – The overall entertainment value and presentation of the dance.

 

Country Swing Strictly Rules

  • Participants must compete as a designated partnership (Lead and Follow).

  • Dancers must maintain appropriate spacing and distance during their performance.

  • Prelims Lifts- the flyers hips may not go over the shoulder of the base.

  • Finals Lifts- overhead are allowed

  • No Props Allowed.

Country Swing Judging Criteria

  • Timing – The dance should follow the rhythm of the music, either SSS or QQS, and any timing changes should enhance the song’s rhythm.

  • Technique – The performance must demonstrate a rotational basic, with slotted patterns, but note it is a rotational dance. Dancers should showcase proper posture, foot placement, articulation, arm coordination, and expressive movements.

  • Content – The incorporation of creative styling and variations, including facial expressions.

  • Teamwork – Effective interaction between partners through physical connection, spatial awareness, and eye contact.

  • Showmanship – The overall quality and presentation of the performance

All Level Line Dance

  • No Vanilla Walls Required

  • Prelims - 90 Sec (2 Songs)

  • Finals - Full Songs (1 Song)

  • Dancers must maintain appropriate spacing and distance throughout the entire performance. Staggered spacing must be kept to ensure everyone has sufficient "room to move." Variations should flow naturally with the original choreography.

  • Aerials are not permitted. Aerial Definition - The dancer’s feet must stay on the ground when changing the plane of dance. Props are not allowed.

 

Line Dance Judging Criteria -

  • Timing - Line dance should be executed with proper stepsheet timing, variations must be on time with the music.

  • Technique - Line dance should be executed with proper stepsheet technique, variations and stepsheet choreography should demonstrate good body mechanics, foot placements and articulation, arm engagement, and facial expressions.

  • Content - The styling and variations added to the stepsheet choreography.

  • Showmanship - The overall performance of the dance.
